World Bank President Asks Other Countries to Learn Indonesia on the Handling of Stunting

World Bank President Jim Yong Kim invites other countries to learn from Indonesia on the handling of stunting. He conveyed with President Joko Widodo visit to Tangkil Village, Caringin District, Bogor Regency Wednesday, July 4, 2018.

“I would like to invite the world to learn from Indonesia on this matter, because Indonesia shows the world that with strong political leadership and commitment, the use of technology, by embracing all stakeholders involved, efforts can be done,” he said.
The problem of growth disorders in children (stunting) is something that happens in many developing countries. The issue must be handled quickly because it involves the development of children and its relation to the contribution to the development of the country.
In this regard, the President of the World Bank says that the handling of stunting requires strong commitment and leadership from the government. He considers that the commitment has been shown by President Joko Widodo and can be modeled by other developing countries.
“There are not many countries that have managed to address this issue of stubbles because the handling of this issue requires a strong political commitment and leadership from the top. Indonesia under the administration of President Jokowi became one of the largest developing countries that demonstrate that commitment,” he said.

Therefore, he also emphasized that the stunting problem should be handled early on. For, as President Joko Widodo often outlined in a number of occasions, the development of the state depends on the conditions and capabilities of its human resources.
“This problem becomes very important because if the stunting is not addressed early on, these children will not be able to optimize their potential and contribute to the development and economy of their country,” he said.
Accompanying the visit were Coordinating Minister for Marine Affairs Luhut Binsar Panjaitan, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, Health Minister Nila F. Moeloek, Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati and Minister of Education and Culture Muhadjir Effendy.
